Microsoft Integrates AI Copilot into Edge Browser Amid Growing Chatbot Dominance
Microsoft has launched an experimental Copilot Mode in its Edge browser, marking a strategic push to integrate AI capabilities directly into web browsing. The feature, now testing in version 136 of Edge, enables cross-tab searches, task automation like restaurant bookings, and contextual assistance—positioning it as a hybrid between Google's limited Gemini in Chrome and Comet's AI-centric browser.
The move coincides with surging demand for AI-powered tools: chatbots recorded 80% growth in visits (55.2 billion) between April 2024 and March 2025, per onelittleweb.com data. Microsoft aims to leverage this trend by transforming Edge from a passive portal into an active AI assistant capable of comparing hotel options or summarizing purchase decisions across tabs.
"Copilot will soon guide tasks and organize browsing into topic-based journeys," says VP Sean Lyndersay, signaling ambitions to dominate the AI-enhanced browsing space. No direct cryptocurrency implications were identified, though the broader adoption of AI infrastructure could indirectly benefit blockchain projects focused on decentralized compute or data markets.
